Who we are
Sonir Bench and Sonir Remote (together, “the software”) are built and run by the independent developer Taiki Noda. The contact for this policy and for anything about how data is handled is support@sonir.app. More about the developer is on nadai.dev.
The short version
The software needs no account. Audio is processed on your own computer and phone. We do not collect, receive or store your audio, your measurements or your designs.
To sell, license and support Sonir Bench, we keep a small amount of information: your email address when you buy, join the beta or write to us, your license key, an identifier for each Mac you activate, and diagnostics only when you choose to send them. The details are below.
Sonir Bench (macOS)
- Playback it receives: Bench processes the audio sent to its virtual audio device in memory and passes it to your DAC. It never writes that audio to a file.
- Files on your computer: your DSP designs and settings are saved in Bench’s folder on your computer. You can manage and delete them yourself.
- Microphone permission: macOS treats input from a virtual audio device as a microphone, so Bench needs this permission to receive playback. If you measure with a microphone, that input is analyzed on your computer and not saved as audio.
- Local network: only when you turn on the connection for Sonir Remote, Bench accepts connections on your local network, protected by a token shown in its QR code. This traffic stays inside your network and does not pass through our servers.
- AI assistants: Bench does not connect to any AI service. If you copy Bench’s specification or results into an AI assistant yourself, what you share is handled under that provider’s policy, not ours.
- Licensing: Bench connects to our server (api.sonir.app) only to start a trial, activate or deactivate a license, and renew a subscription or a beta license. It sends an identifier derived from your Mac’s hardware (a one-way hash, not the hardware ID itself), the Mac model (such as “Mac14,3”), and the versions of macOS and Bench. It does not send your computer’s name, your files or any audio.
- Diagnostics: only when you press the button to send them, Bench sends your macOS and Bench versions, the names of the audio devices in use, the sample rate, the last error code, and a text log with your home folder, user name and email addresses removed. It never sends audio, waveforms or measurements.
- Updates: when it starts, and when you press “Check for updates”, Bench asks our server (api.sonir.app) whether a newer version exists. It sends only the Bench version and the kind of Mac it runs on (macOS on Apple silicon). A new version is downloaded and installed only when you press the button to update.
- Bench does not include analytics or advertising.
Purchases, licenses and support
- What we keep: your email address (and name, if you give one), your license key and plan, the identifier, model and versions of each Mac you activate, the messages you send to support, and the diagnostics you send.
- Beta: when you join the beta, we email a license key to the address you enter. If you later buy Sonir Bench, we link your beta license to your purchase by email address and by the identifier of the Mac you use, to see how many beta users go on to buy. We use this link for nothing else.
- Payments: Stripe processes payments and keeps your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card details. We look up the status of your purchase or subscription at Stripe when Bench activates or renews, and when we answer your questions.
- Service providers: our server, database and incoming email run on Cloudflare, and we send email (such as your license key and our replies) through Resend. They process this information only to provide these services for us.
- How long we keep it: diagnostics are deleted after 180 days, and support conversations two years after they are closed. License records are kept while the license can still be used, and beta license records for one year after the beta ends. Backups are kept for up to 90 days, so deleted information can remain in them for that long.
- We do not sell or share this information for advertising.
Sonir Remote (iOS / Android)
- Microphone: used to record the measurement sweep. The recording is turned into an impulse response and a frequency response on the phone, and the recording itself is not kept.
- Camera: used only to read the QR code Bench shows. The image is decoded on the phone; no photos or videos are taken or saved.
- Local network: used to connect to Bench on your network. The phone sends Bench only filter settings (the PEQ), never the recording.
- Stored on the phone: the measurements you keep (impulse response, frequency response, name and date), the calibration files you load, and the address of the Bench you last connected to. None of this is sent anywhere. You can delete measurements one by one, and deleting the app removes everything.
- Remote does not include analytics or advertising.
Crash reports
We do not embed third-party crash reporting. If you have enabled diagnostic sharing in your operating system, crash information may be sent to Apple or Google under their policies.
This website
sonir.app uses no cookies, analytics or advertising. As part of how any website is delivered, our hosting provider may briefly process access information such as your IP address. Fonts are served from sonir.app itself, so opening a page does not connect your browser to any other font service.
Your rights
If you live in the EU or the UK, the GDPR and UK GDPR give you the right to access, correct and delete information about you, and to restrict or object to its processing. What the software keeps on your own devices you can delete at any time. To access or delete what we keep about your purchases, licenses and support, write to support@sonir.app. We may need to keep some records where the law requires it (such as for tax).
Children
The software is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as features or laws change. For significant changes we will update the date on this page and let you know where we reasonably can.
